  • Mentoring undergrad/younger graduate student in Nicholson's lab
One of my most successful mentorships has been with a non-traditional student in my lab, Tori Knapp. She responded to my mentorship offer at TC3 where she was studying. Tori is a returning student who supports her two children. I mentored her on lab techniques, but also supported her in applying to and attaining, an undergraduate research experience in the field she really wanted to study, astronomy. Because of my experience as a physics undergraduate, I relate to her and mentor her as a woman in Physics, who is now in her senior year.
  • Tompkins Cortland Community College   (Jan. 2013-May 2014)
My most rewarding experience teaching was working as a professional tutor for science, math and Spanish at the Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3). The class that tended to need tutors the most was Math 090 (Pre-Algebra), and the students who requested tutoring the most often were non-traditional students who have been out of school for a long time. While tutoring these students, I helped them with motivation while also fostering their security and independence. Throughout each semester, it was very gratifying to see their progress independently studying and consistently earning good grades. During the summer, the classes Math 201 and 202 (Calculus I and II) was the most popular for tutoring help. These are the most advanced math classes that TC3 offers. By the end of the semester, the whole class was coming to the tutoring center so we could work on effective learning methods. Because I was an English as a Second Language (ESL) student, many international students would request me as their tutor. Seeing this, my supervisors asked that I create a workshop for training other tutors. I presented the workshop title “Comprehend ESL Students” at the Training Association for College Tutors Conference in 2013. This workshop was designed to create empathy towards ESL students.
  • National University of Colombia, Bogota, Colombia     (Jan. 2011-Jun-2011)
This class was mainly for non-physicist major who would want to learn more about quantum mechanics. I graded 50 student’s assays and test during the semester, additionally I organized the reading material for the 200 students in the class, and help to design the midterm test and final exam. I managed the course website, for all the 200 students.
